Just off the A9 between Inverness and Aviemore, Tomatin was once the largest distillery in Scotland, and also the first to be fully Japanese owned. It is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland at over 1000 feet above sea level. The sprawling site has a much smaller output these days. Tom McCulloch, then a customs officer, now Tomatinís managing director, was the signatory on Speyside Distilleries distilling licence in 1990.
